The fossil fuel industry doesn't rest in the summer — so neither can we

As I watched the snow fall outside my window yesterday, it was hard to believe that summer is right around the corner. But you better believe that it’s coming, and the time to figure out your summer plans is NOW!

Summer is a critical time to build and strengthen the movement, and luckily there are tons of opportunities to get involved in the youth climate movement this summer!

Check out our Summer Opportunities page to find out what’s going on across the movement! Many application deadlines are approaching soon!

PHOTOS: #ForwardOnClimate - The Largest Climate Rally in US History

Yesterday was truly incredible — starting with the inspring Youth Convergence where 500+ young people gathered to continue building this movement and talk about the incredible work students are doing to push their colleges to divest from fossil fuels and move to 100% clean energy — and ending with the 50,000 strong #ForwardOnClimate rally, the largest rally in US history calling for climate action!

We’d love to hear from those of you who were at the rally or the convergence, so please share your experience on the blog! In the meantime, we wanted to share some of our favorite photos of the day.

Exciting New Phase for the WeArePowerShift.org Leadership Team

Ever wonder what keeps WeArePowerShift.org ticking behind the scenes? It’s not magic, it’s the passion and dedication of this community and the hundreds of youth climate organizers who come back daily to contribute blog posts and comments (okay, plus a little magic).

But there is one group that deservers some extra recognition. Last spring we launched the WeArePowerShift.org Leadership Team and over the last year this incredible group of grassroots organizers from across the country have played an invaluable role, above and beyond the blog posts you see. They have been true leaders of the community, working tirelessly to recruit new participants, lead trainings, and shape the direction of WeArePowerShift.org.

Today, I’m excited to announce a new phase for the WAP Leadership Team. In order to better support all of you as participants in the community, we’ve decided to re-structure the Leadership Team around the issues that you care about. Starting today, each member of the team is taking on a topic/issue area to lead, and will be the point person for keeping the community up to date on that topic and for supporting community members who want to share their work and ideas.
