That's how much Michigan is worth to the state's Department of Natural Resources, who will be holding an oil and gas lease auction Tuesday, May 8 to sell public land to the highest bidder for development and fracking without public consent. This is a insult to the people of Michigan and a crime against the public and the planet.
Michigan is home to 25% of the world's fresh water. If Michigan is willing to carelessly disregard its bountiful water resources in the name of profit for already wealthy oil and gas speculators, then what example does this set for the rest of the country? Putting our water at certain risk through oil and gas development is not only a threat to public health and the earth, but sets a dangerous precedent for the nation.
