University of Iowa Sierra Student Coalition

Goals:

We aim to engage, empower, and organize our fellow University of Iowa students in the youth-led climate movement.

Our UI Beyond Coal campaign aims to gather student support and urge our university to make a stronger commitment toward ending the use of coal at our campus power plant.

To accomplish this, we will tirelessly campaign to raise awareness and keep the issues of dirty coal in the news with continuous actions such as documentary screenings, rallies

I worked incredibly hard today to raise awareness about my Beyond Coal campaign on campus at the University of Iowa. I gave a quick pitch to a couple classes about it, and stood in an outdoor walkway with buckets of the very coal and oat hulls burned on campus - all the while, collecting student names in support of urging the University to extend their efforts just a little and commit to stop burning coal on campus completely.

  • Built this new organization on campus, engaging over a dozen student actively in just one semester
