University of Cincinnati Beyond Coal
UC Beyond Coal Mission Statement
1. To educate students, faculty, administration, and community members at the University of Cincinnati about the impacts of coal production and usage on public health and the environment. Specifically, the impacts of the coal-fired boilers currently employed on the East Medical Campus at the East Campus Utilities Plant (ECUP).
2. To encourage the administration to work, along with the advisement of faculty and students, to aggressively seek and implement renewable energy alternatives to the coal-fired boilers at the ECUP. Also, that the administration make a realistic and binding commitment to quickly move beyond using coal on any of our campuses.
3. To encourage the administration to seek contracts with Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) available from local sources that are competitive with current rates provided by our mostly coal-fired electrical provider, Duke Energy LLC.
4. To encourage the administration and faculty to integrate renewable energy technology and other “green job” tracked curriculum to prepare our students to be competitive in future job markets.
