Just recently, 14 miners were trapped in Northern Mexico after an natural gas explotion set flame, leaving 3 dead. After posting this devastating story on "The Book" this morning, my comment box began to fill up with a number of opinions on the matter, some even saying it was "misleading" to say the Fossil industry was killing our people and devouring our lands.
"Imagine if a wind turbine broke and landed on a house, killing someone (which has happened on numerous occasions), I wouldn't go off and say wind energy is killing people," they said.
Aside from the rare occasions mentioned, we have to begin looking at these challenges holistically and include the life-cycle costs and benefits of these sources. From their extraction, to the transport, to the refinement, to the use, and finally to the result of their use; the fossil fuel industry is a never ending nightmare. If all things were considered and there wasn't a veil over our heads, we would have a clear picture of the devastation our actions are causing to this planet.
