Students in Maryland know offshore wind works. For their families, who have to pay energy bills in an increasingly volatile market. For their friends, some of whom are the 1-5 children suffering from asthma fed by the 31 fossil fuel plants in Maryland. For their future, as jobs leave while increasingly dangerous storms threaten the coastal state. Maryland youth know offshore wind works!
And right now, students in Maryland are ready to go to work for their future and make a local, clean energy economy a reality!
On Wednesday, February 22nd, hundreds of students from across the state of Maryland will be gathering outside of the state house in Annapolis for a rally and day of action, hosted by the Maryland Student Climate Coalition (MSCC). The morning will start off strong, as groups meet with their elected state delegates and senators, urging them to support offshore wind to ensure a healthy future for all Marylanders. Those not participating in lobby meetings will be dropping off literature, including letters from maryland institutions and students detailing their steadfast support for offshore wind.
Then, at 12:00 pm, a rally will kick off featuring Mike Tidwell of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Maryland Delegate Heather Mizeur, students from campuses across Maryland, and more-including a surprise guest speaker!
Afterwards, Maryland students are going to keep the pressure on their elected officials by lobbying, writing letters to the editor, blogging-everything they can do to keep a long-term perspective in the public eye. Because Maryland's future is what's at stake.
