Check out the new video of me and other SSC leaders inviting you to the #ForwardOnClimate rally, and pass it on!
This past July I was visiting Missouri, and I was a couple hours outside of St Louis when I got the news: All 114 counties in the state had been declared natural disaster areas from record-breaking drought.
At first this seemed simple - it had been and would continue to be a hot, dry summer, but after a minute the power of this simple statement sank in. I am growing up in a rapidly changing climate. Climate change is not something my generation will have to deal with, it’s something we are dealing with. Our generation faces an unstable future of more record breaking heat, wildfires, super storms, and drought unless we act now.
President Obama holds the unique power of being able to influence our energy future on the scale and urgency we need. But we as young people will be the ones to set the bar every time. Every day I work closely with students from Georgia to Maine, and Missouri to Washington, who organize their communities to achieve climate solutions locally.
A
s young people, we have shown President Obama time and again that we demand clean energy solutions, and that when he finally acts on climate we will have his back. From our community fights to the first PowerShift in 2007, to encircling the White House in 2011 and now the #ForwardonClimate Rally on Feb 17th we must continue to show up and support President Obama in taking action on climate now.
His first milestone of this term? Rejecting the Keystone XL Tarsands Pipeline.
Join the Sierra Student Coalition and thousands of youth on February 17th at the National Mall for the largest climate solutions rally in history.
RSVP for the rally and SSC will help connect you to a ride share or bus in your area!
Also check out the Facebook event and share widely!
See you in DC!
