So...who were those green people?

On Friday, September 30th, Bates College in Lewiston, Maine kicked off 100 Actions for 100% Clean Energy with an action planned by the Bates Energy Action Movement (BEAM). The action was called "so...who were those green people?".

Around 50 Bates students gathered at noon on September 30th. We painted our entire bodies green and did a coordinated and mapped our run around campus, including through some main buildings (academic buildings and the lbirary) and ended our run at Commons (our one dining hall) during prime lunch time, chanting "Bates Beyond Tar Sands". We were running for clean energy and also wanted to raise awarness about the Tar Sands.

We have created a video compilation of the run and are hoping that it goes viral! It has been on Youtube for just one day and already has 162 views! We want everyone at Bates to be aware of the Tar Sands and how destructive the Keystone XL pipeline can/will be. After the action, many Bates students were curious and asked many partcipants questions about the pipeline. There were also signs all over campus titled "so...who were those green people?" explaining the reasoning behind the action and giving reasons for why the Keystone XL pipeline is not a good idea.

Bates is planning on bussing students down to Washington DC to participate in the Tar Sands action on November 6th and we're looking forward to see you all there!

Bates Beyond Tar Sands!
