Check out this new video highlighting so much of the work that students and allies are doing to make their endowments more socially and environmentally responsible!
As a partner organization of the Energy Action Coalition, the Responsible Endowments Coalition (REC) is excited and honored to join in solidarity with many of the existing environmental justice and climate change struggles of our EAC allies, from fights against mountaintop removal and fracking to the shift to a clean energy economy. And we want to do so harnessing a new and unique tool: the power of U.S. universities combined $400 billion and their complicit support of these crises. REC is excited to be a partner on the emerging Divest Coal campaign, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. If we are successful, the reverberations on finance and our economy could be huge.
Want to know where your alma mater is invested, and how to create a responsible endowment to advance the values of your community instead of profiting environmental criminals? Here's a few things you can do:
- Students: Apply to a REC Summer Organizing Retreat this summer, and invest in your own power as an emerging leader with a unique skill set and knowledge base around just and sustainable finance. We have scholarship and travel funding available, but the June 25 deadline is coming up fast!
- Alumni: Contact REC to find out how to get more involved with a campaign at your alma mater -- and support REC with a financial donation that can allow us to provide more scholarships and travel funding for students to be trained on how to make change.
Together, we can move our universities to change the face of finance -- but not without smart and talented student leaders. Please share this message with your campus community, and join us today.
