Get On the Bus to Power Shift | Applications Due Monday
Apply for the Extreme Energy Immersion by Monday, September 23rd.
As the sustainability director at Unity College, I've watched the youth climate movement build some incredible momentum over the last several years. Four times our students have taken me to DC to demand bold climate action from our nation's top policy makers. Twice we've sat with the White House Council on Environmental Quality to engage the administration on the most important issues of our time, taking with us signatures from over 40,000 people who likewise want to see an authentic Power Shift. As the first college in the country to commit to fossil fuel divestment last year, we're at the vanguard of a movement that seeks to use all of the tools at its disposal to influence meaningful change for a livable future. This youth climate movement connects our students to each other on campuses and in communities around the globe.
But we're not just activists and organizers . . . we're educators. And the best tool we have to offer the movement is an engaged, empowered, effective citizen. That's why we're partnering with the Expedition Education Institute (EEI) to offer the Extreme Energy Immersion next month. We want to connect what our students are learning in the classroom about climate change, environmental quality, and social justice, to the realities on the ground. EEI has a long history of field-based, experiential education, and we're taking that experience to the frontlines of extreme energy extraction on the way to the Pittsburgh Power Shift conference.
Participants in the Extreme Energy Immersion will visit frontline communities living with and organizing around issues of hydrofracking, mountaintop removal coal mining, and fossil fuel divestment. We believe that direct experience and applied learning can make a great education and a more effective climate leader.
Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Learn more and apply online by 5pm on Monday, September 23rd.
